THE SEASON STARTS HERE

Dear Friends of the Sport,

 

It is our great pleasure to invite your club and your swimmers to the IAMWI Open Challenge Invitational – a two-day short-course meet hosted and organised by RWB Aquatic Academy at the Centre of Excellence Swimming Pool Complex in Tunapuna, on Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 October 2026. As the first meet of the new season, this is where the year's rivalries are launched and every club sets down its opening statement.

Make no mistake – this is a highly competitive meet. Across four fast-moving sessions, clubs and their strongest swimmers go head to head over every stroke, the individual medley, and a full programme of relays – racing for event medals, the five stroke championships, Age Group Champion honours, and the overall Club Championship. Come ready to race.

At the same time, the IAMWI Open Challenge has a place for the whole swimming family. 8 & Under swimmers are catered for in Sessions 1 and 2; 9–10s in Sessions 1 to 3; and 11 & Over swimmers and Masters in Sessions 2 to 4. Developmental swimmers – those yet to compete at a National Championship – may race in Sessions 1 and 4 as exhibition (non-scoring) athletes. From our youngest 8 & Under swimmers to our 30 & Over masters, every age group has events to contest.

We have designed the competition to reward depth and versatility. Beyond a medal for the winner of every event, swimmers can earn Age Group Champion honours, the five stroke championships (Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke, Butterfly and I.M.), and the Swim of the Meet – while clubs contest the overall and relay championships.

 

These individual honours are decided on the World Aquatics Points system – a single scoring scale that converts every swim into points by comparing the time to the current world record for that event. It lets performances in different events, distances and age groups be ranked fairly against one another; the higher the points, the stronger the swim. There is no lengthy opening ceremony – instead, each session opens with a spirited “Cheer Past,” a chance for every team to be seen and celebrated as the racing gets under way. We warmly welcome clubs and individual swimmers, from Trinidad & Tobago and beyond, to join us for two days of fast swimming, friendly rivalry, and shared celebration of our sport.
